Why does Vitals⁺ include Selenium?
Selenium is a trace mineral that plays a big role in protecting your cells from damage, keeping your thyroid, immune system, and DNA function running smoothly.
Vitals⁺ includes 55mcg of selenium (from selenium methionine), delivering 250% of your NRV—an optimal, safe dose that supports all-round wellbeing and antioxidant defence.
🤔 What does Selenium actually do?
Selenium is essential for making a group of enzymes and proteins called selenoproteins, which are involved in:
Protecting cells and DNA from oxidative stress
Supporting healthy thyroid function, especially in hormone production
Normal immune response, especially during infection or inflammation
Neurological and reproductive health, through antioxidant protection and hormone balance
According to EFSA, selenium is crucial for maintaining the body's selenoprotein P levels, a marker of healthy selenium status and antioxidant capacity.
🤔 Why selenium methionine—and why that dose?
We use selenium methionine, a highly bioavailable organic form that’s naturally incorporated into the body’s protein structures—allowing your body to store and utilise it efficiently over time.
EFSA sets an Adequate Intake (AI) of 70mcg/day for adults, and a Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) of 255mcg/day, based on the risk of selenosis (selenium excess). Our 55mcg dose offers a meaningful yet well within safe limits level of support—especially helpful for those who don’t get enough from food.
